2x33MVA RKEF Project — PT Stargate Mineral Asia

Stargate is planning to build a ferronickel smelter that produces Nickel Pig Iron (“NPI”) .

The location of the smelter will be in Molore Village, Langgikima District, North Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The raw material from SMA smelter will be supplied by SPR, a sister company of SMA. SPR is a holder of mining permit in an approximately 1,674 hectares of area with nickel ore resource compatible with the smelter plant measured at 24.7 million wet metric tons (“WMT”).

The smelter, in which to be constructed by Sinosteel, will be equipped with 2 lines of Rotary Kiln Electric Furnace (“RKEF”) smelter, with a design basis of NPI nickel content recovery rate of 93% from converting nickel ore to NPI, NPI production capacity of 130,740 tons per year (using 1.65% Ni feedstock), and NPI nickel content of 10%.

Stargate smelter construction and pre operational activities is expected to finish by the end of 2023 and operational activities is expected to commence starting 1 January 2024.

For the initial operation and maintenance of the RKEF, Stargate has agreed to grant the EPC Contractor 2-Year O&M Contract to ensure smooth commissioning.

Instead of constructing another high carbon emission PLTU for the smelter, Stargate has decided to cooperate with PLN to achieve greener power source.

PLN Sulawesi has 500MW excess of electricity power, Stargate has agreed to purchase power from and co-invest with PLN to build transmission line to connect Stargate industrial park to the grid.

PLN also plans to construct its own 450MW PLTGU in the Stargate area. The completion is on schedule with the RKEF construction.
